Drumbaragh 1-12 Longwood 1-10
Job done in Round 1 of the Meath GAA Corn na Bóinne, as Drumbaragh overcame a battling Longwood at Páirc Emmet.
A beautifully observed minutes silence for former captain Martin Luddy preceeded an entertaining early season clash. Conor Lynch was in fine form, taking his chances from placed ball to help his side gain a foothold in the game. A strong first half showing from Jimmy Corcoran (1-02) had the Drums in control at the break 1-09 to 0-04.
Credit to the travelling ‘Wood they battled back finely in the second half. Talisman Ryan Moore with a collection of long-range scores to keep his side in the hunt. A big moment in the game came as a looping ball caused confusion in the Drumbaragh defence before fortuitously nestling into the Drums’ net. A score that kept the away side within touching distance with 8 minutes remaining.
Shane Campbell impressed on his seasonal return, and his well taken point gave his side some breathing space. Moore added another to his tally, but the Drumbaragh rearguard led by centre-back Darragh McNamara and Killian Byrne showed great resolve to keep the visitors at bay to see out the victory.
Well done to all involved. It’s always good to start the season on the right foot.
