Drumbaragh 1-08 Moynalvey 1-05
Drumbaragh made it three wins in as many games with a dominant performance over Moynalvey at Páirc Emmet.
Shea McManus had his side on the front foot with a point within the first nine seconds of play. A Conor Lynch free soon followed and Drumbaragh were up and running. A Moynalvey goal on the 3rd minute, sparked life into the contest. Jake Balfe made a very important save with Moyvalvey looking for goals against a swirling breeze that favoured the hosts in the opening half. Scores were hard to come by, with pitch conditions heavy, we had to wait over ten minutes for Conor Lynch to level. Darragh McNamara pointed after some neat interplay to edge his side in front.
Liam Ward scored back-to-back points as Drumbaragh piled on the pressure. That pressure told on the 31st minute with Lynch raising a green flag on the stroke of half-time o give his side a healthy cushion. Drumbaragh welcomed back James McGovern, who impressed at full back, flanked by Killian Byrne and Eamon McGee who held the Moynalvey attack to a solitary score. Drumbaragh 1-06 to 1-00 to the good at the break.
The second-half was a more open encounter, Moynalvey made the most of the half-time break and came out firing. Reeling off two points after Jimmy Corcoran had extended the home side’s lead. Jake Balfe and McGee were brave again, to keep the men in maroon out. Lynch would point again for his side’s last score of the game to make it a five-point game.
It was the turn of the Drumbaragh defence to withstand a flurry of attacks, John D Smith, Lewis O’Donnell and co. keeping the Moynalvey men at arm’s length. Two pointed frees, had it back to a one score game and it was backs to the wall for the hosts. In the final ten, Smith, McNamara and Colm Carry led by example and stood firm – it was to be Drumbaragh’s day – and top of the group.
Well done to all involved on a dominant performance, as we turn our attentions to Meath Hill in the semi-final stage.
