Drumbaragh got their league campaign off to a flyer with a deserved 7-point win over Dunshaughlin B in Páirc Emmet on Saturday.
Drumbaragh asserted themselves on the fixture from the off, a goal in the first minute from Willie Carry settled any opening-round nerves. Further points followed from Hughie Corcoran and Liam Ward (1-01) to make it 2-03 to 0-00. The Drums rear-guard led my Eamonn McGee was exceptional in the first half, and it took the visitors 25 minutes before registering their first score of the game. Drumbaragh 2-03 to 0-03 to the good at the break.
Drumbaragh opened the second-half on the front foot, the lively Luke Fagan finding the net in the opening minute. Further points followed from Carry and Ward leaving us 10 points to the good and looking full value for the win. Credit to Dunshaughlin though, as they rallied well reeling off 4 points in succession to give the home crowd some concern. The “Black & Amber” cut the deficit to 5 with 10 minutes to play.
Alas, that was a close as things would get, with further points from Scott Lynch, Ward before William Carry hitting the net once again to bring his personal tally to 2-02. Philip McDermott and his defence stood firm and limited Dunshaughlin to scores from distance to see out the game as the victors on a score line of 4-07 to 0-12.
Well done to Fiachra Sweeney and his the team on the win. Great to see so many lads back on the field for the first time this season.
